This presentation discusses the revisions made to the 2023 edition of the NFPA 25 Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. After a brief overview of the NFPA standard development process, it reviews the important changes made to the document during the first and second drafts, including insights into the technical committee’s discussions during the meeting and intent.

Joshua McDonald, MSET, CFPS, CWBSP, WBITM is a technical programs specialist for AFSA, where he is responsible for developing, updating, and delivering technical content. He has experience in all areas of training for fire protection industry professionals including web-based and hands-on learning. As a manufacturer, McDonald has been involved in research and development of new fire protection products and has experience with risk engineering applying to the installation of fire protection systems. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in fire protection and safety engineering technology and Master of Science degree in Fire Safety and Explosion Protection from Oklahoma State University. McDonald is a member of NFPA and SFPE.
