Intro to the Fire Sprinkler Industry is an 8-hour foundational course that introduces new professionals to the core concepts, history, and purpose of fire sprinkler systems. Participants gain a comprehensive understanding of how sprinklers function, their effectiveness, and their role within the broader framework of fire protection codes and standards.
Topics include an overview of AFSA and industry support, the properties of fire, the history and evolution of sprinkler technology, relevant codes and standards, and the characteristics of sprinklers. Learners will gain an understanding of the technical assistance and member support services AFSA provides to help contractors, designers, inspectors, trainees, facility managers, and AHJs succeed in the fire sprinkler industry.
The course also covers system components, the types of sprinkler systems, standard system configurations, and the water supplies required for system operation.
The class is delivered primarily through lecture with active Q&A and hands-on demonstrations, making it ideal for newcomers who need a clear, structured overview before diving into more advanced technical training.
Audience: Any experience level, new technicians, new inspectors, AHJs, and facilities maintenance personnel.
