SUMMARY:Beginning Design School
DESCRIPTION:The Beginning Design School presents a comprehensive\, practical approach to preparing fire sprinkler system drawings. \nOver a three-week period\, students will attend six live webinars studying and reviewing the installation and design approach requirements of NFPA 13 (2019) while completing self-paced exercises and module assessments. Q&A sessions and open discussions will also be included as part of the online instruction. \nThe second part of the class will be a week of in-person training preparing fire sprinkler system layout\, shop drawings\, and hydraulic calculations by hand. The course concludes with a comprehensive exam of the class content including the installation requirements and hydraulics. \nThere is no CAD or third-party software taught in this class. \nLearning Objectives:\nThe school will prepare the student to: \n\nAccelerate the comprehension of plans and various types of building construction for proper sprinkler spacing applications.\nDetermine the proper and economic planning of sprinkler system layout and installation methods.\nKnow the importance of sprinkler specifications\, types of pipe\, hangers\, fittings\, flow tests\, etc.\nLearn to develop shop drawings from start to finish.\nLearn to coordinate with other trades – plumbing\, mechanical\, structural\, and electrical.\nPerform manual hydraulic calculations by hand\, preparing the student for a more natural decision-making process when using a computer to perform hydraulics.\nPrepare shop drawings in class for projects with different applications.\n\nPrerequisites:\nThis class is designed for trainees and entry-level technicians with at least six months of experience as well as those with experience in the sprinkler trade looking to make the transition to system layout. \nJuly – San Diego; September – Dallas; November – Orlando \nThe final week of each session will be hosted on location. Hotel location TBD. \nMore Info & Register

SUMMARY:Remote Inspection\, Testing\, and Maintenance of Fire Pumps
DESCRIPTION:Date: 2/1/23     Time: 9:00 AM  Pacific Time / 11:00 AM Central Time \nAs more and more emphasis is given to the Internet of Things (IoT)\, the use of electronic devices to determine the status of water-based fire protection systems is getting a lot of attention. Recent changes to NFPA 20 and to NFPA 13\, 14\, and 25 allow for the use of these devices for automated inspection and testing and distance monitoring. This webinar will explain these recent allowances in the NFPA standards and explore the possibilities of using electronic devices and circuitry within the fire pump controllers to perform ITM functions to satisfy NFPA 25. \nLearning Objectives: \nUpon completion of this webinar\, attendees will be able to: \n1. Explain the new allowances in the water-based fire protection systems standards that enable electronic devices to perform ITM functions.\n2. Describe the types of devices used to perform ITM functions in a fire pump room.\n3. Discuss the pros and cons of performing ITM remotely instead of in person.\n4. Identify limitations that we know of today for remote ITM that could be resolved soon. \nDetails:  \nRegistration Fees (per person): \nAFSA Member with no CEU: FREE\nAFSA Member with CEU: $25\nNon-Member: $250\nAHJ without CEU: FREE\nAHJ with CEU: $15 \nContinuing Education Credit: \nThis webinar offers: 0.1 CEUs\, 1.0 CPDs \nTo receive continuing education credits for the webinar\, you must do all of the following: \n\nRegister individually using your name that matches your fitter certification\, if applicable.\nConnect with your unique webinar link\nDo not share or use someone else’s unique webinar link.\nAttend the webinar in its entirety\nRespond to each checkpoint question\nSubmit a completed evaluation form within 14 days of the webinar\n\nPlease check your time zone to ensure you connect at the right time: \n9:00 AM – 10:00 AM Pacific Time\n10:00 AM – 11:00 AM Mountain Time\n11:00 AM – 12:00 PM Central Time\n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time  \nMore Info & Register

SUMMARY:Enforcing NFPA 25 with the Fire Code
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a webinar to learn about enforcing the requirements of NFPA 25. NFPA 25\, Standard for the Inspection\, Testing\, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems is referenced by the model fire codes. While NFPA 25 provides the required tasks and frequencies to perform ITM activities\, enforcement lies within the fire code. This webinar will describe the differences in scope between the codes and standard\, updates to NFPA 25 and the fire code involving enforcement\, and how consistent enforcement will benefit the fire sprinkler industry. \nLearning Objectives: \nUpon completion of this webinar\, attendees will be able to:\n1.    Identify the scope of NFPA 1 and NFPA 25\n2.    Determine the roles and responsibilities of the owner\, the AHJ\, and the ITM contractor\n3.    Identify a deficiency and impairment and the proper action for each\n4.    Determine the appropriate amount of time to correct a deficiency \nDetails:  \nRegistration Fees (per person): \nAFSA Member with no CEU: FREE\nAFSA Member with CEU: $25\nNon-Member: $250\nAHJ without CEU: FREE\nAHJ with CEU: $15 \nContinuing Education Credit: \nThis webinar offers: 0.1 CEUs\, 1.0 CPDs \nTo receive continuing education credits for the webinar\, you must do all of the following: \n\nRegister individually using your name that matches your fitter certification\, if applicable.\nConnect with your unique webinar link\nDo not share or use someone else’s unique webinar link.\nAttend the webinar in its entirety\nRespond to each checkpoint question\nSubmit a completed evaluation form within 14 days of the webinar\n\nPlease check your time zone to ensure you connect at the right time: \n9:00 AM – 10:00 AM Pacific Time\n10:00 AM – 11:00 AM Mountain Time\n11:00 AM – 12:00 PM Central Time\n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern Time  \nMore Info & Register

SUMMARY:Standard Spray Sprinkler Obstructions
DESCRIPTION:Standard spray sprinklers are a staple in fire sprinkler systems. These tried-and-true sprinklers have lots of details for locating sprinklers near obstructions\, and there are certainly plenty of obstructions in the field. Learn what items are considered obstructions to standard spray sprinklers and how close is too close when installing them. Not every obstruction can be spelled out in NFPA 13\, but new clarifications do get added with each edition. \nLearning Objectives: \nUpon completion of this webinar\, attendees will be able to: \n1. Explain the impact of obstructions on standard spray sprinklers.\n2. Differentiate obstructions to determine which rules apply to common items.\n3. Discuss the variations in the rules for pendent\, upright\, and sidewall sprinklers.\n4. Use the obstruction guidelines to locate standard spray sprinklers efficiently.
