SUMMARY:Fire Pump ITM Workshop
DESCRIPTION:AFSA’s Fire Pump ITM Workshop is designed to provide ITM technicians\, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)\, and facilities managers with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills related to fire pump installations and the necessary ITM procedures. Participants will gain a deep understanding of the key differences between diesel and electric-driven fire pumps\, engage in hands-on exercises to perform no-flow and full-flow fire pump tests and learn the ITM requirements for water storage tanks. Hands-on activities\, including energy diffuser selection\, data acquisition\, supply graphing\, and data interpretation\, will help participants solidify their understanding of stationary fire pumps for fire protection. \nLearning Objectives:\nUpon completion\, participants will be able to: \n\nExplain codes\, standards\, and the roles and responsibilities of the parties involved in the inspection\, testing\, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems.\nComparing and contrasting the components of different types of water-based fire protection systems.\nIdentify the operation and required NFPA 25 periodic inspection\, testing\, and maintenance requirements for common components\, sprinkler systems\,  wet systems\, and dry systems in water-based fire protection systems.\nExecute the NFPA 25 requirements for the no-flow testing of fire pumps\n\n Learn More and Register

SUMMARY:Sprinkler Hydraulic Calculations Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this three-day\, in-person workshop\, students will understand and apply principles of hydraulics\, including the different types of pressure\, calculating changes in pressure (elevation and friction loss)\, and node analysis. Students will apply factors for equivalent length adjustments based on pipe type\, size\, and system arrangement. Using the principles of hydraulics\, students will select a remote area\, perform hand calculations for tree systems\, identify and understand the different sections of the detailed hydraulic worksheet\, and place the appropriate system information. Examples of calculations for sprinkler systems\, water supply analysis\, and simple loops are provided with a hands-on approach. Students will apply their knowledge to perform hand calculations. Then\, students will utilize computer-based calculation software to demonstrate the impact of choices on system characteristics to determine effects on system demand and performance and validate the results. \nLearning Objectives: \nUpon completion of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify occupancy classifications and minimum design criteria.\nDetermine available water supply and compare system demands.\nDetermine minimum starting flow and pressure.\nIdentify forms of pressure loss.\nApply the Hazen-Williams formula by changing variables (flow\, roughness\, and pipe size) to improve system performance.\nDetermine the minimum water supply needed to support sprinkler system demand.\nApply hydraulic principles to balance flows and pressure at junction points.\nDescribe the output of hydraulic calculation software and appropriate input to obtain an acceptable result and identify common errors.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Learn More & Register
